Marae trip

When we arrived Nic and Elly's classes welcomed us with a powhiri. We felt excited, a bit nervous and it was odd knowing we wouldn't be doing one for anyone else!
When the other classes lef we did a pororoaki to say goodbye.

After the other calsses left we did some activities which were....weaving a putiputi, we played ki o rahi with Stephen, we learned string games and a scavenger hunt in the whare with Eb. We ate our lunch and then split up to write in our diaries or help make dinner.
Dinner was awesome. Dessert was the best because we made pancake cakes.
We all slept together inside the whare on matresses side by side by side!
This is proof that we can do dishes!

Storytelling practise

To get ready for our marae trip we have been creating our own myths and legends. In the old days the maroi language was not a written language so to pass on stories and history the maori had to tell each other the ideas and information. To try to understand this we have made up our stories but we have not written them down. We have drawn them!! Now we are practising hard everyday to be ready to share our stories at camp and with our little buddies. We have ro use our faces, our bodies, our arms and our voices to show different people, places, and the things that are happening.
Here are some of the children practising to themselves.

Putting learning styles into place

For the last 3 weeks we have been trying to figure what kind of learners each of us is. What we need to learn well and what stops us from making progress. We have worked with Suzanne and Joy and each other to identify our attributes. We have watched some video of circus acts because different types of people would do different types of acts just like different people think and work differently.
Today we rearranged our classroom to suit ourselves. Here we are in the middle of the job...
And this is how we settled...
Now we can see if where we are works better for us.
This is our first few minutes trying our new positions out...

That Science Guy

We has a fantastic visit from the Crazy Science Guy this afternoon. He did all sorts of chemistry and physics experiments including making elephant's toothpaste

And floating a planet n air
And showed us how baby nappies make liquids into solids.
And what happens when you blow on a piece of paper....
